to rest while wanted man is finally captured after a violent crime spree in san jose. >> the widening extent of damage after a gas explosion in massachusetts. and the president and his daughter take part in a holiday shoppingeded trip. >> i will never, ever get over this. >> ama: the innocent victim of a violent south bay crime spree is laid to rest today by his families and friends. a funeral service was held for the young man who was shot and killed in an attempted carjacking last friday. lawyer pettiford was 22 years old. one person has been arrested and now they have caught his alleged partner. here's more. reporter: on that alleged partner is only 15 years old. san jose detectives developed information that led them to an apartment complex in the east bay where they arrested that 15-year-old boy yesterday. the news broke as a lot of people were celebrating the life of the 22-year-old man who was killed. >> hugs and tears outside the campbell funeral home where dozens of friends and family members shared memories of 22-year-old rory park pettiford, the young man caught null the sa

the woman from a shopping center in have a layio. he faces 10 felony counts. police in san jose are searching for two men who held up a jewelry store at gunpoint. two armed men, wearing masks and hood sweatshirts entered the store about 10:15 this morning. police say they approached the store owner who also had a gun, and the three exchanged gunfire. the would-be robbers then took off empty-handed. >> we have officers looking for witnesses. others are searching for video that could possibly help us in the investigation, and we also have officers canvassing the area, looking for possible suspects. >> they're still trying to find the suspects. no injuries were reported. >>> san francisco general hospital is demanding compensation from the los angeles dodger for the treatment of brian toe. they are -- brian stow. they are seeking 1.2 million. >> i do think the level of care that i know he has received since over an entire baseball season now, the billed a up, and i do think that there is some negligence case that they probably have. >> the hospital wants the money from former dodge

midnight near mission san jose high school. crews had to spray water on the backyard of a home to prevent it from catching fire. pg&e is hoping to restore electricity by 9:30 this morning. >>> a cap pain was rushed to -- a captain was rushed to the hospital after a fire. janine de la vega. >> reporter: i just spoke with firefighters who are here on the scene. they tell me that fire captain does have actually some serious injuries. they have been here all night watching this building just to make sure that nothing sparks up here. it's pretty dark but much of this building was damaged. it has left nearly 20 people homeless. the fire started around 8:20 last night on willow leaf drive when firefighters arrived flames were shooting from the roof of this six unit complex that turned into a three alarm fire. some residents had no idea their building was on fire until neighbors pounded on their door. firefighters doused the flames with water from outside and inside. during the attack one firefighter got injured. >> unfortunately we did have a firefighter that was doing interior attack. they did

. >>> registered sex offender volunteers at a san jose school. now families are demanding to know how it happened. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran explains the twist that may have allowed him on campus. >> i put my daughter in this school expecting her to be protect and kept safe. >> reporter: parents at saint francis cabrini are outraged. some hearing the news a registered sex offender was at a school event a month ago for the first time. in early october, this man 51- year-old mark gurries was volunteering at the elementary school's festival when someone recognized him as a sex offender and told sheriff's deputies. gurries told the sheriff's office he had legal permission to be there in a norm of a letter from a churchin official. >> i can't believe he was allowed to be on campus. >> reporter: to signed this form and is it legitimate? >> we want to make sure that the person who doctored it who signed it at the bottom does in fact exist and did give mr. gurries permission to be on the premises of the school church. >> reporter: parents are still waiting for answers from the school and diocese. the

-old jonathan wilbanks of san jose. they say he and a second suspect went on a crime spree friday night allegedly robbing four businesses within two hours. after those robberies, police say the two shot a man at a 7-eleven and tried to carjack him. that man ended up dying at that scene. san jose police were able to arrest wilbanks during a shootout with officers. the second suspect did get away. >> anybody who's willing to take part in four armed robberies and shooting at police officer, basically trying to kill one of our cops, is as dangerous as it gets administrator wilbanks was hit during the shootout and one of the police officers suffered minor injuries. police will hold a press conference at city hall along with mayor chuck reed and other city officials to update this investigation. >>> right now let's check things outside. >> we've got something to be thankful for around here, jon kelley. we've got rain on the way but it will subside by turkey day. 66 in fremont at that and 66 in redwood city. no showers in the forecast until tonight up in the north bay. that arrives at about 8:
